Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo: Not too many folks know I started out my performance career over 40 years ago as a socio-political songwriter. The lyrics I wrote expressed the growing awareness of what we termed the Asian American Movement. The songs addressed US Imperialism, housing and labor issues, cultural identity and racism. I was part of Yokohama California and other bands performing songs like these at rallies, demonstrations, community forums and festivals. This short video (Ed. Note: on Facebook showing a record the original record) plays part of a song I wrote (1977) called "Different Picture". It expresses issues of racist stereotypes and declares that we as People of Color need to declare our own history and contribution to this nation on our terms (not corporate media's) This newly released CD is an important cultural archive- I highly encourage all of you to buy this part of history!
